I always buy dolls with the company faceup if I am buying direct, and even when buying dolls secondhand I won't buy it unless it has a faceup already. I just know myself well enough that I won't take the time to paint a doll's face myself, and I don't want to send a head off later to get a faceup and risk damage or loss in the mail.

Okay I think I've been straight up turned off the BJD community. The level of drama, hate, elitism is disgusting and I haven't even TOUCHED it yet. What the fuck.
#kerytalk#bjd#getting very angry about pieces of plastic (resin is also a polymer) guys#like the idea I might get put on blast for buying cheap practice heads to do faceups on#jesus christ dude#DOA all '3D printed heads are off topic' bro ... what if I sculpted that damn thing myself - it doesn't count now?#just because it's not from a namedrop company?#so now the even 'make it yourself' argument isn't valid like what the hell dude#these are not louis vutton handbags these are goddamn DOLLS#like the foray into rainbow high was basically me working up to BJD but damn if I have to 'collect quietly' and not show anyone what I have#because I have seen people with legits being accused like#no. fuck off with that.#negative

also really good doll update... the head arrived at the warehouse and is being packed rn + i found someone else who is doing the exact method of retrobrighting i want to do on the same doll type so. i know for sure its safe :) which is a big relief lmao
#twist rambles#even IF shes super yellow. i believe that itll all be possible and she will be cleaned up... altho as someone who HAS done a lot of retro#brighting on mlp idk if it could even repair all the yellowing if its THAT bad lmao. we will see tho....#bjd posting#god that reminds me. i need to see what her vinyl tone was originally...#JUST CHECKED?!?!?! SHE WAS WHITE VINYL!??!?!?!?!?!??!?! SHE IS SO YELLOWED FOR THAT?!?!?!?!?! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!?!??!??!!??!?!#i assumed she was semi white (another vinyl color the company offers) bc thats what my other doll from them is from and like... it looks#pretty similar to me?? like the bit of skin i CAN see looked like that. oh my god thats. horrific lmao.#on GOOD news if its too light for the body i can pretty easily blush it to match more (guy thats bad at blushing doll parts voice. ill be#fine totally) so thats better than it being too dark? again as long as i can wipe the faceup and deyellow her lol. so so so glad i got into#mlp restoration tho bc it gives me a lot of the tools i need for this project yk? of like. just knowing how to protect certain things if it#is rly unevenly yellowed. sorry whenever i talk about this doll i ramble for 60 years in the tags.

I guess I'm going to have to save up and wait until they do orders for another girl that looks similar, or maybe just focus on the resin color and a little less on the face (again, save up for that bit.) There are a few companies that I know of that do tan, and their tans might work. Then two of those have a color that looks darker than a tan. Like, ResinSoul has a resin tone that could work. I looked at their sculpts before, and there wasn't one that caught my eye for Gwen. Maybe with a faceup by me it could look more like her.
This girl coming, I guess, might be friends with one of my two new ones, Ninette. I hadn't figured out who out of everyone she was best friends with or hung out with the most when it came to her character. I took a long break from doll journaling and forgot that I hadn't finished coming up with her character while waiting for her, so she mostly has a vibe atm. lol
#ResinSoul is also on the cheaper end of BJDs so there is also that#the one that I've thought was cute might work#maybe I'll save up and order her#her company faceup doesn't look bad either and I can add freckles and stuff to it to make her look more like Gwen#I don't have a ResinSoul doll so if I went with that one she'd be my first#des says stuff

hmmmm i need. new practice heads for bjd faceups. i dont like any of the ones i have. unfortunately they are not cheap
#ik some companies sell ones that are Supposed To Be practice heads but i dont really know what the difference is?? i have one it looks like#a normal head. idk. i mean i dont like the sculpt but it doesnt seem different like. quality wise?? it even has a head plate#anyway i think those are usually cheaper i know that one was but idk anyone that makes or sells them. i got that from mint on card when they#were still around but. theyre not anymore. & ive never seen any on dde/bjdivas/acbjd. maybe no companies make them anymore idk#so ill probably just have to buy full price heads. sad#i could look for pre-owned ones i guess... i worry abt legitimacy when buying pre-owned tho#ik theres some cheaper brands but i dont usually like a lot of their sculpts lmAO & ''cheap'' is still like. $50 for a 1/4 head#like its a cheap price For What It Is but $50 is still like. kind of a lot of money#i also kinda want to see if theres somewhere i can get just like. parts. idc if theyre damaged or whatever i just want to practice dyeing#i want to see if theres a way to resist dye on resin. like if i put masking fluid or smth over it will it stop it from dyeing that part...#but idk if it would even withstand the hot water. it might just like. melt or something#im also worried that like if i dye it one color & then mask part of it & dye it again even if it does work it might lift the color from the#first dye?? bc its like. sticky. i think i tried using it to mask part of a faceup once & it removed the layer underneath but that doesnt#soak in the way dye does but it might still fuck it up idk#also i need to buy more paint lmao all i really have is like. black & white. i mean technically i have a lot of colors but i specifically#use like fluid or airbrush acrylics bc i hate. when it leaves a Texture. & i dont feel like thinning paint all the time & then i gotta make#sure i actually get the consistency right UGH#why did i put all this in the tags. anyway. god i wish i had Money

This cutie isn't mine, but belongs to my wife. Her name is Poppy, and she was difficult to paint due to her sculpted eyelashes. At least she turned out really cute! I took these pics right after I finished her faceup. Anime faceups are still difficult for me, but I think I did a good job on her!
My wife has been in the hobby almost as long as me (only 1 month shorter), but she put it on standby for the last 7 or 8 years. She was still getting some dolls, like the Penny's Blind Box TeaParty centaurs (we got a herd), and once in a while I'd buy her a doll she liked. But this is the first doll she'd really fallen for in a long time. Poppy is her desk buddy, and it's nice to see her enjoying the hobby like this again.
The body is super cute and a chonk, and came wired from the company already. Dressing her was a task and a half as she's thicker than MDD and regular MSD dolls. For some reason the head is a different resin than the body despite having been bought as a full doll. The whole doll is made of resin and poses decently. Sitting is a little tough, as I think the wire is a little thick in her legs. But for $135 ($165 with wig) she's a very budget friendly and nice anime resin doll!
The what is what:
Sculpt: Sprouting Dragon Zilu with sculpted eyelashes in Mia Pink and resin wig in white resin
Eyes: 20mm plaster and resin anime eyes from Etsy (from a taobao reseller, we made sure they didn't sell recasts in any shape or from though!)
Outfit: Alice's Collection, in MDD size
Faceup: Me over at @izasfaceups

Here we have a real blast from the past, a Hujoo Girl in apricot skin! I remember these dolls from when I got into the hobby back in 2011, they were a real staple as a budget friendly BJD company. She's not made of resin, but ABS plastic instead. It's a pity they are no longer around, the dolls were really cute!
The client did warn me that she was a little scratched up around the lips from a past faceup removal, which did become apparent when I was blushing her. But overall I think she turned out lovely.
Want to see more of my work or commission me? Then please check out my website at www[dot]IzasFaceUps[dot]com!

BJD Sales
Hi everyone! I will have several big expenses over the summer (wisdom tooth removal, newer car, potential ADHD and pcos evals/diagnoses, etc) and I want to make sure they are as... least-impacting as possible on my savings, especially since most are medical and I have no idea how much my insurance is actually going to cover... so any reblogs and shares are always appreciated!
Most things will be cross-posted on Den of Angels, Instagram, and Facebook. Additional information will be under the cut. I ship from the USA and due to postal concerns, I can only send the large, high-value packages within the USA right now.
Allergen warning: I live in a pet-friendly, non-smoking household near a corn mill.
Harucasting Smile Maji head: She’s some kind of tan resin, but I don’t 100% remember which one. Her previous owner split the head and body so the coa went with the body. I remember her previous owners name & email, but I don’t recall their instagram handle. Maji has thankfully NOT been recasted so I do not worry about her legitimacy, but I wanted to be upfront about that detail. Her magnets need to be reglued and she still has faceup residue. As with any of my Harucasting dolls, in respect to Haru’s wishes, I will only sell his dolls to pro-artist/anti-recast individuals.
$100 + shipping
5stardoll Elf Elaine: She was painted by her previous owner and given a mani-pedi which is chipping as well as pretty purple body shimmer. Her face still has faceup residue on it. She’s really cute but I need to make room — I am willing to sell her head separately, though. According to her card of authenticity she was produced in late 2018. I believe she is in normal pink skin.
$170 + shipping
Latidoll Blue Yern:
Yern is a slim MSD sized doll and the Blue (MSD) line has been long discontinued. Yern still has her coa and Latidoll manual, as well as the emblem in and outside of her head. I am not sure of the specifics but her torso has had some kind of mod job for mobility reasons?
Yern is from early 2009 and has certainly yellowed, but her yellowing appears to be consistent. Yern would probably benefit from a restringing with thicker elastics but I can get her to pose and stand just fine. Her s hooks were replaced and she has traditional/standard bjd s hooks in her wrists and ankles. For whatever reason one elbow likes to stay slightly bent. Yern will be shipped UNSTRUNG so that would be a good opportunity for her elastics to be changed; she still has an o hook for her head.
Her faceup is holding up really well considering it is quite old but please be aware that it is old, has some wear, and it is not factored into the price I am selling Yern at. The biggest sign of wear I noticed as a small dark streak near her temple.
She has some damage near her foot/ankle. Considering her age I think she has been holding up really well.
$100 + shipping
Dollzone MSD Girl Body: normal pink resin. Arrived from Alice collections in late 2022, spent most of its time in the box. Asking $200 + shipping.
Harucasting Big Geuru: She is in neul medium tan. She has a face up by@tonocha331. She has an extra pair of hands and comes with her box and card of authenticity. She will come without clothes or eyes.
She has some small s hook scratches in one wrist from a previous owner and several small scratches on her belly. Her face up seems to be in overall good condition other than three shiny spots on the side of her head. $550 + shipping
Logandolls Primrose: Primrose in light tan (coffee) with additional heel feet (strung) and an extra pair of hands. She does not come with a company box but she has a card of authenticity and comes with a blanket that I believe logandolls made for her. Received in a trade from my friend @groovyblueworld! She will NOT come with a pair of eyes. If desired, I can ship her in an old Dollzone company box for extra protection. Ordinarily she would cost $480 new but I am asking $440 + shipping - you basically get the extra hands and feet for free and an extra $10 discount. I can also sell a Flower Primrose faceplate in Resinsoul normal for an additional $40.
$440 + shipping

I always thought my faceups were ass ugly so I always just got company ones so they’d at least be pretty to look at, but I’ve done a couple of them myself and honestly?? Now I prefer those. Like I can really make them look however I want. All I gotta do is ignore all the FLAWS.

how did you get into this hobby? i really wanna get more into bjd dolls but don't rlly have the funds for it at the moment but hope i can in the future be able to get some rlly nice blank dolls to paint n customize
Like a lot of people I got into BJDs through fashion doll customs! I was definitely inspired by Dollightful on youtube, and her videos taught me the basics of how to do faceups. Thankfully the materials used in her videos (MSC, watercolor pencils, etc.) also work for BJD faceups, so the transition was very smooth.
Wishing you luck on getting into the hobby anon! There have been more and more affordable companies in the past few years so hopefully you can find something that works for you.

This might be controversial, but tbh I think the way that recasters are operating now is even worse than it was several years ago.
Like before, most would say that their recasts were [insert company's doll name], so if you knew recasts were a thing and saw a minifee chloe on aliexpress or ebay for $200, you'd know it was fake. Especially on ebay, they used to state straight up in the description that the doll was a recast LIKE THEY'RE LEGALLY SUPPOSED TO.
But now? You have recasters frankensteining a bunch of different recast parts together, giving the dolls customized full sets, new names, and claiming that they're original dolls. The dropshippers all over ebay don't even bother stating that they're recasts, which is illegal, but even if you report them how tf are you supposed to prove they're fakes to the random ebay mods? Even if you specifically hunt down the original bodies and heads that were recast, the new makeup and clothes will make the dolls look different to any non-doll hobbyist's eyes. To make this even more confusing for newbies, there ARE legit bjds being sold by dealers on aliexpress (ufdoll, imomodoll, tiny blind box bjds) so giving a blanket ban for the site can cause misunderstandings.
I tbh don't even understand why they go to such great lengths either if they're looking for a cheap buck. Like why spend time and money making them good clothes, wigs, and makeup? With that amount of effort, you could probably make a simple legit plastic bjd instead.
Plus at this point, those full sets cost the same amount or more as a legit doll from many chinese companies (ESPECIALLY during chinese new year sales). I think the main way to combat recasts for newbies is to promote these afforable legit companies like myou, truelove, asleep eidolon, huajing doll, xaga, doll leaves, etc. After all, the only inexpensive legit company I see recommended is usually resinsoul. There's nothing wrong with resinsoul, and it's a great option for fantasy parts/colors, but most newbies that want a minifee chloe probably won't enjoy resinsoul's sculpts and faceups...

her story btw is that i bought her head several years ago from somebody on insta bcuz it was £30 and i thought it was cute. i’d like never considered her sculpt before (impldoll delia) but it was like soooo cute in dark resin. and then i saw somebody else with one that i thought was so badass so i BOUGHT it and um. well had no body for her. and then i got a bunch of faceups commissioned and sent her as well and when she came back she was my favourite by far cuz she’s soooooo stunning but she still didn’t have a body so she went back into her box. and THEN finally i bought her a body in the same resin and now she lives on my shelf :3 yay!
#i have four impldoll heads now btw. wadda hell#one of them was a free gift from the company :3#that DOES perfectly resin match this body. but i bought it for my delia. so. my awesome crisis#i should bring her out sometime thoughhhh she doesn’t have a faceup but she’s cute. she’s a ummm. uh#boy i don’t know. it begins with a v#VILMA. you see i know everything
